Insurance Tips: Travel

As the weather gets warmer and travel season heats up, it’s time to review your insurance coverage. Before any trip, gather your insurance paperwork to understand what’s covered and what’s not. Here are some tips.

Auto Insurance. Check that you have your insurance ID and registration in the vehicle at all times.  Include the name and phone number of the insurance company or agent.

Health Insurance.  Keep your health insurance ID card, a list of your drug allergies, a list of drugs you are currently taking and information about any of your other medical conditions with you at all times.

Travel Insurance. A policy can be purchased if you are concerned about accidents or losses during a trip.

If you have questions or are confused about your insurance coverage, contact your insurance company or agent.

New Parents, New Insurance Needs

There are steps new parents can take to protect their growing family. New parents are encouraged to assess their needs and review coverage options.

  • Before the baby arrives, find out exactly how your health care plan handles the costs of a new baby.
  • Make sure you are aware of the deadline and requirements to register your newborn with your health insurance company.
  • Check rates before upgrading vehicles. Auto insurance premiums are linked to vehicle age and type.
  • Notify your insurer of major additions by contacting your insurance company when making any major home improvements to prevent being underinsured.

The Louisiana Department of Insurance’s Shop Your Rates tool can help you compare automobile and homeowners insurance rates among companies.
