Department of Insurance Cautions Senior Citizens of Unlicensed Company Selling Dental Products
Senior citizens are being warned to be on the lookout for a company called Dental2U that is unlicensed to sell dental insurance in Louisiana. Today the Louisiana Department of Insurance obtained an Order from the 19th Judicial District Court against Dental2U, Paul A. Granzier and Richard N. Hartman for operating without a license. The company has been marketing and selling a dental plan to residents of long-term care and nursing home facilities in Louisiana and other states.
The Louisiana Department of Insurance received a complaint from a nursing home resident who reported that she and other residents had purchased dental plans from Dental2U which were marketed as insurance programs. The customer contacted the Louisiana Department of Insurance which investigated the matter and found that the company was not licensed to sell health, accident and life insurance products in the state of Louisiana.
“We are issuing a warning to seniors because we have learned this unlicensed company is targeting residents of nursing home facilities in south Louisiana, specifically in the Greater New Orleans, Baton Rouge and northshore areas, and may be reaching out to potential targets in other parts of the state as well,” said Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon. “If a consumer wants to verify whether a company is licensed to sell insurance in Louisiana, they can call our toll-free number 1-800-259-5300.”
A list of licensed companies is also located on the Louisiana Department of Insurance website www.ldi.la.gov. Commissioner Donelon urges consumers who feel uneasy about any insurance related transaction to call the Fraud Division of the Louisiana Department of Insurance at 225-342-4956 or 1-800-259-5300. If callers do not want their names used, they can request that their involvement be kept confidential.
