Appraiser Registration
The language of a Louisiana standard fire insurance policy includes a provision for the use of an appraiser in the event of a disagreement between the insurer and the insured over the value or amount of loss. This provision is found in 22:1311(F)(2). Act 96 of the 2012 Regular Legislative session requires that any person acting as an appraiser in accordance with this provision be registered with the department.
Current Requirements until December 31, 2024
Appraiser Registration Form
The initial registration fee is $55. The fee to renew a registration is $50.
Appraiser initial registrations and renewal processed prior to December 31, 2024 will only be valid through December 31, 2024. Reapplication under the new requirements will be required beginning January 1, 2025. Take this under consideration before submitting your application.
The determination of whether an appraiser is a competent and disinterested party will be made by the party employing the services of the appraiser. Any qualifications provided on this registration application will be made available to the public on the department website to assist both insurers and insured in electing an appraiser.
Public adjusters may also be registered as appraisers; however, an individual may not function as a public adjuster and an appraiser for the same claim.
A list of registered appraisers can be found using the Company Search feature.
Registration Requirements Beginning January 1, 2025
Act 625 of the 2024 Regular Legislative Session creates new requirements for individuals seeking to register as an appraiser and/or umpire pursuant to La R.S 22: 1807.1. The Act establishes minimum qualification requirements and also sets forth conflicts of interests which may disqualify an individual from acting as an appraiser or umpire for a claim. LDI will begin registering appraisers and umpires under the new requirements beginning January 1, 2025.
You can read Act 625 here.

- Louisiana general contractor license
- A license in any state as a professional engineer
To qualify as an umpire, the individual must meet the qualifications of an appraiser or be an attorney licensed in Louisiana with experience in first-party property damage litigation.
LDI will begin accepting applications for appraiser and umpire registration under the new guidelines beginning in mid-December. A new electronic application will be available on the LDI website at that time.
